Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has hinted at discussions ongoing between the government and the Global Legal Entity Identity Foundation to provide a unique global identity for all businesses in Ghana.

The move is to provide a unique reference code for all businesses to enable them to operate effectively on the global stage without hindrance.

Speaking at the opening of the (WTCA) in Accra, Vice President Bawumia stated that while Africa works towards integrating markets for effective trade, providing legal identities for businesses will further enhance intra-African trade and make African businesses more competitive.

The WTCA General Assembly is the Association’s premier annual event, gathering representatives from member World Trade Center (WTC) businesses and their business networks. This year’s meeting, which focuses on “Towards African Economic Integration and Enhanced Global Presence,” will create the opportunity for participants to deliberate on ways to enhance intra-African trade and make African businesses competitive on the global stage.

Vice President Bawumia said the government’s digitisation agenda is centered on the need to streamline essential public processes and services and eliminate bottlenecks that have suppressed progress in all sectors of the economy.

He said the government’s decision to give businesses in Ghana a unique identity will enable them to operate effectively, both locally and globally.

In a welcome address, the Executive Chairman, Togbe Afede, said the Continent is ready to partner with others for mutual benefit, stressing that ”Africa has the potential to address some challenges around, especially in the area of food security”.

He reiterated the need for Africans to join hands and become a strong force.

Chairman of the World Trade Centers Association, John Drew, in a remark, indicated the center’s commitment to create an opportunity for growth and prosperity for Africa through strategic partnership.

Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area, Wamkele Mene, said the theme chosen resonates with AfCFTA’s vision to make Africa the driver of growth in the world.

He said the continent therefore needs to ”integrate its markets and move more towards industrialization to become globally competitive”.

The five-day meeting will create the opportunity for participants to discuss issues on agriculture, financial, energy, manufacturing and ICT among other key sectors.
