Some drivers have expressed misgivings about government’s plan to increase road tolls.

In an interview the drivers in Accra Central who ply the Tema-Akosombo route, they told GBC’s Business News the increase will have a huge impact on their operations given that prices of fuel have gone up already.

The 2021 Budget Statement and Financial Policy of the government was delivered by caretaker Finance Minister Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, in Parliament.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Majority Leader in Parliament Osei-Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated that government will increase tolls in the coming days as part of measures to mobilize revenue for the development of the country.

This the drivers say will affect their sales and may resort to a sit-down strike.

Meanwhile, the National Concerned Drivers Association and True Drivers Union have called on their members across the country to resist any road toll hike by government.

In a statement, the Association bemoaned the increase in the price of fuel and announced they will increase transportation fares effective Thursday, 18 March 2021.
