The Ghana National Gas Company says the issue of unplanned reduction in the supply of natural gas to power generation companies has been resolved and that, the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant is in full uninterrupted operation.

According to the company, the unplanned reduction in the supply of natural gas was a result of an upset of the onsite power generation system. This resulted in the temporary shutdown of the Plant on Friday, July 7, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

A statement issued by the Company and signed by the Head of Corporate Communications, Ernest Owusu-Benpah said the temporary shutdown of the plant led to about 30 percent reduction in gas supply to downstream power and non-power customers.

The statement said, “our engineers and third-party contractors worked assiduously around the clock to restore normal operation within five (5) hours”.

It explained that, during the shutdown, the company made alternative arrangements for emergency mobile power generation units which enabled the transportation of natural gas to power generation companies.

It will be recalled that power supply to some parts of the country was affected, which the Ghana Grid Company attributed to a supply gap of 650 MW of power at peak time occasioned by limited gas supply from the Atuabo has Processing Plant.
