As part of a series to include all forms of opinion in the national conversation on salvaging Ghana’s economy, the GTV Breakfast Show featured the views of young men in leadership positions from selected Tertiary Institutions.

SRC President of the University of Mines and Technology, Isaac Aryeetey, suggested that more young people should be interested in the discourse on Ghana‘s declining economy and that Ghanaians also deserve to understand the issues properly in terms of the categories of production, consumption and trade, so as to make the relevant contribution.

Mr. Aryeetey joined a team of Student Representative Council Presidents on the Breakfast Show on November 2, 2022.

He suggested a holistic approach to addressing the issue of import rates which keeps increasing.

The solution, Mr. Aryeetey observed is to push for the consumption of indigenous recipes.

On Galamsey, the SRC President said the University of Mines and Technology is spearheading a number of intervention activities.

“The University of Mines and Technology under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor of UMaT, Professor Richard Amankwah are still in the process of working out efficient and advantageous measures to curb the problem”.

He suggested that traditional authority and other stakeholders should be educated on the effects of galamsey, so that they could lead the process in pushing for enforcement of the bye laws.
