Minerals Commission retooled to step up monitoring of mining activities

Government has provided logistical support to the Minerals Commission to enhance its monitoring and evaluation activities. The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor who made the presentation at a brief ceremony in Accra said health and safety measures are key pillars for sustainable mining especially with the recent Appiatse explosion. The items include 20 Pickups, 10 blast monitors, 187 desktop computers, 68 laptops, and 11 photocopiers.

He noted that the logistics would enable the Commission to execute its constitutional mandate efficiently, in promoting sustainable mining practices as well as protecting lives and property. The sector Minister said the mining sector plays a critical role in the socio-economic development of the nation, therefore, the government will make the necessary investment to sustain it.
