Namibia ready to partner with Eastern Region in agriculture development

The Namibian High Commissioner to Ghana, Selma Ashipala-Musayvi has disclosed that every business in Namibia is strictly scrutinized through an environmental assessment to ensure that the country’s ecosystem is not destroyed.

This, she noted has helped the Namibian government to protect its environment since its ecosystem is very fragile. Mrs. Ashipala-Musayvi made the revelation when she paid a courtesy call on the Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong during a two-day working visit in the Eastern Region.

According to the Namibian High Commissioner, her outfit is ready to partner with Ghana, especially the Eastern Region in developing its Agriculture sector of the economy.

“We export and process meat to other countries with a well-established manufacturing industry. I am in the region to find out how we can help each other in improving the agriculture sector “.The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong on the other hand observed that even though the country is endowed heavily with natural resources, illegal mining and sand winning are some bad practices affecting crop farmers in the country.

Hence, he mentioned the annual tree planting exercise by the various civil society organizations, government and non-governmental institutions in the country as some measures in place by the government in protecting and preserving the environment.

When the Namibian High Commissioner visited the Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, the Krotihene, Baffuor Nyantakyi Tutu pleaded with the Namibian government to establish a recycling programme for plastic waste in the Eastern Region, specifically Koforidua in the New Juaben South Municipality to help manage plastic waste, which in recent times have become a menace in the Africa continent.

The Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area was however excited about her visit and is hopeful that their collaboration with the country will help increase its developmental agenda.

The Namibian High Commissioner visited Maa Grace Garments, Fair Afric Chocolate Factory and Rasboat Poultry Farm among others in ending her two-day working visit in the region.
