Civil society organization, Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability, ASEPA has called on Parliament to critically scrutinise the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, GNPC, and Aker Deal to ensure that any agreement reached is in the best interest of the country.

At a media briefing in Accra, Executive Director of ASEPA Mensah Thompson said the decision by the GNPC to acquire more stakes in the Aker/AGM oil bloc is laudable but the valuation raises some concerns.

He said the Centre will not hesitate to file a complaint with the Office of the Special Prosecutor to demand a corruption risk assessment if it detects any corrupt practice in the deal. He said Parliament must ensure that the concerns of CSOs, and the public are addressed before going ahead with the transaction.

“Our position is getting GNPC to hold interests is what we are asking for. The valuation of the block, that is what is stirring all these agitations.” Mensah Thompson stated.
