Traders at Ashaiman market have expressed delight about the increase of sales and profits during the Christmas holiday, a survey conducted by the Ghana News Agency team during the yuletide has shown.
Madam Akosua Agyeiwaa, a clothing and shoe vendor at the Ashaiman main market, told the GNA that the daily sales had improved drastically due to the yuletide.
“I have made lots of sales throughout the period. It is not easy to make that kind of sales on a normal day in the market. People from across the regions travel to buy already made dresses, shoes and socks for their children for the Christmas and New Year celebrations,” she said.
Madam Agyeiwaa said most women and men preferred African print during these Christmas celebrations for special occasions such as church service, family outings and dates.
Mrs Zenabu Alhassan, a jewellery vendor, also told the Ghana News Agency that people always wanted to look exceptional during these festive holidays by wearing gold or silver pieces of jewellery.
She said pieces of jewellery beautified both males and females in so many ways because not anyone wears them on a normal day.
Madam Christiana Awuni, a Makeup Artist at the Ashaiman Roundabout, said both young ladies and the mature walks into her shop to beautify their faces for all kinds of occasions during these festive holidays.
Some of these occasions include parties, birthdays, weddings, outings and church services, she said.
Mrs Akua Adom, a foodstuff vendor at the Ashaiman Market, said she had invested in the business purposely for the festive season and it yielded the desired results.
She told the Ghana News Agency that, her shop is getting empty due to an increase in sales adding that, women tend to buy more foodstuffs than they usually buy on a normal day.
She said foodstuff like Onions, tomatoes, garden eggs, groundnut paste, plantain, cassava, palm nuts, rice, fresh and smoked fish, crabs, snails and pepper were largely bought in bulk during these festive holidays.
She expressed delight due to increased profits during the festive season.
