Despite efforts to curb child trafficking on the Volta Lake, the practice still persist.

This was evident when a team from the Human Trafficking Secretariat and its Management Board, International Organisation on Migration and some NGOs, paid a visit to Kete-Krachi in the Oti Region for a sensitisation and stakeholders engagement.

A Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Freda Prempeh,  warned perpetrators of child abuse, that  they would  serve a maximum punishment of twenty-five years when caught  because  the practice is criminal.

The Deputy Regional Minister for Oti, Maxwell Blagodzi, gave the assurance that policies to protect children will be implemented.

The Adontenhene of Krachi Traditional Area, Nana Nkrumah Eyerealeso who deputised for the Paramount Chief, Nana Mprah Besemua, said they will get tough on child traffickers.
