The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers, COPEC, has described the current arrangement between Power Distribution Services (PDS), and Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), as “lawless” and called for its immediate suspension.
In a statement, COPEC questioned why the ECG is overriding its powers to contract the operations of PDS, a company that has been duly suspended by the Minister of Energy.
It said the situation only exposes the deeper influences of faceless persons other than those known appointees who have been vetted into public offices to protect the public purse.
COPEC is worried that such reckless actions within the Energy sector has over the years served the bane for the mounting debts which governments eventually heap onto fuel prices and huge taxes for industries and individuals.
