Government says it has taken note of requests by Ghanaian students in China to be evacuated back coronavirus home in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak and is still considering them.

The death toll in the outbreak has reached 810, surpassing the total number of fatalities attributed to the SARS outbreak in 2002 and 2003.

More than 37,000 cases have been recorded in mainland China with stranded Ghanaian students calling on government to evacuate them.

According to the emotionally traumatised students, Wuhan, where they are located, is on a lockdown with all shops closed making it difficult for them to get access to basic necessities.

Information Minisiter Kojo Oppong Nkrumah at a media briefing said government is discussing the necessary protocols for evacuation, adding that as and when necessary, a decision will be taken.
