The President of the Ghana society of Radiographers, Prince Rockson has appealed to the Ministry of Health particularly the President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to immediately constitute a board to oversee the regulation and training of Allied health professions in the country in order to prevent a looming crisis in the health sector in as a result of a lack of governing board in the Allied Health professions.

He made the call when he addressed Radiographers at the celebration of the world Radiography day in Accra.

According to him, governing board that are mandated by law to regulate and train Allied health professionals, among other things has not been replaced for almost two years since it’s dissolution hence a threat to the health delivery system in the country.

He noted” as I speak there is no board in place to oversee the training, licencing and inspection of 17 Allied Health Professions and facilities, a direct threat to the health delivery system in the country.”

Mr. Rockson also expressed worry over the influx of non- clinical health professionals who are operating unregistered clinical radiological installations.

He therefore appealed to the law enforcement agencies to rid health facilities and imaging centres of unqualified radiographers.

“How are institutional controls, as required by proper corporate governance principles complied with? Are we as a country able to protect our clients and the public from unsuspecting quacks who pose a danger to safe and quality health delivery?” he quizzed.

World Radiography day is set aside on November 8, of every year to remember the role and contributions of Radiographers across the world and also promote the profession making it a viable and specialised career.

The 123rd world Radiography day celebrated on the theme “Precision and Compassion: Radiographers’ qualities” brought together members of the Ghana Society of Radiographers, Federation of Ghana Medical Imaging students and university of Ghana society of Students Radiographers (UGSSR).

The 10th Biennial Pan African Congress of Radiography and imaging, PACORI will be held in Ghana from February 14 to 17, 2019.
