A Biostatistician and Lecturer at the Department of Biostatistics, School of Public Health, University of Ghana, Dr. Justice Moses Aheto, has challenged the Ghana Health Service’s conclusion that Ghana has peaked in its COVID-19 rate.

He said factors like mass or universal testing is also important to know the number of positive cases in the population. Dr. Aheto noted that there are factors that can conclude that a country has peaked.

He said many people could have the disease without showing symptoms.

Dr. Aheto added that in the case of a special mapping to further correct the procedures, government and the Ghana Health Service have to do that in earnest.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye has justified why the service thinks Ghana has peaked in its Covid-19 rate. Speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme Focus, Dr. Aboagye said the decision was based on what the health sector is doing and what the general population is doing to stop the virus.

He said however if the people fail to adhere to the safety protocols outlined, it can go up again. Dr. Aboagye said though the Service has not changed its strategy of contact tracing and surveillance, the daily testing as Noguchi has begun, will help provide real data of the infection rate.
