ECG announce temporary power outage in Volta and Oti Regions

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a temporary reduction in power supply to parts of the Volta and Oti Regions after a fire broke out at the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) substation in Akosombo.

In a statement, ECG explained that the incident disrupted electricity supply to both regions, leading to load management measures in several communities between 1200 and 1800 hours on Monday, April 27.

According to the fire at the Akosombo substation has lowered the volume of electricity available for distribution to the Volta and Oti Regions, which has led to scheduled power interruptions in some affected communities.

The impacted areas include Adidome Township, Akyemfo, Mafi Anfoe, Mepe Dagorme, Adexor, Battor Gbagbavuinu, Depe, Kpando Technical, and KPASEC.

Others affected are Kpando Township, Kudzra, parts of Kpando, Ve Golokwati, Fume, sections of Nyagbo, Logba, parts of Jasikan Township, Apenkwa, Bodada, Bowiri, Anfoeta, and Dzolokpuita.

Also affected are Amedzofe, Dzologborgame, Kpedze, Shiave, Nyive, Matse, Klefe, Ziavi, Microwave, Alayi, Soldiers Barracks, Akpenamawu, Daabra, Police Depot, Akoefe, Kpenoe, Hodzoga, Tanyigbe, parts of Mafi, as well as Aflao Township and nearby border communities.

The load curtailment will also impact Adutor, Tsavanya, Tordzinu, Klotekpo, Gafatsikope, Torve, Logokukope, Akatsi Township, the Ave communities, Dzrakate, Atidzive, Abor, Tadzewu, Avalavi, Fodome, parts of Liati, Gbledi, Wli, sections of Kpando, Akaa, Alavanyo, Nkonya, Gbi Akplamafu, Hedzranawo, Adina, Kedzi, Agavedzi, Keta, Kadjebi, Asato, Mount Sinai, parts of Jasikan, Nkwanta, sections of Ho Township, and parts of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) main campus.

Other affected areas include Adaklu Kodzobi, Sokode Lokoe, parts of Sokode Gborgame, Akrofu, Abutia, Rainbow, Aflao Low Cost, Agbokope, Beach, Avoeme, Awakome, Denu Low Cost, Tsito Township, and neighbouring communities.

ECG added that electricity supply will be restored once the voltage profile improves and normal power distribution is fully stabilized.

The company has appealed to affected customers for patience over the temporary disruption, assuring them that steps are being taken to restore power as soon as conditions allow.

“Affected customers should please note that immediately the voltage profile improves, power supply will be restored,” a portion of the statement revealed.

ECG apologized for the inconvenience and reiterated its commitment to providing a reliable and stable electricity supply to customers in both regions.
