The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced plans to invest more than GH¢1 billion in the Ashanti Region to improve electricity distribution and reduce power fluctuations.

The company says the upgrade will begin on May 6, 2026, and will focus on replacing and installing 300 new distribution transformers in areas experiencing low voltage due to overloaded equipment.

Speaking to Citi News, ECG’s Ashanti West Regional Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Obeng Antwi, assured residents and businesses that the intervention will bring quick relief to those affected by unstable power supply.

He explained that the investment forms part of a broader effort to strengthen the electricity network in the region and improve reliability.

“We want to assure our customers that there is no need to panic. ECG is undertaking a major upgrade to improve service delivery,” he said.

Mr. Antwi added that the project includes upgrading power conductors to increase capacity and support growing demand in the region.

According to ECG, the investment is part of ongoing measures to enhance network performance and ensure a stable and consistent electricity supply across the Ashanti Region.
