Barely a year after its formation, Adzigo Norvileke Welfare Association (ANOWA), a group of dynamic young men from Anlo Afiadenyigba has made a major intervention that will boost education in their community. Over the past years, the study of mathematics and technical/vocational skills has been hampered by the lack of basic teaching and learning materials such as mathematical sets.

In view of that the Norvileke group has procured over 1,000 pieces of mathematical sets valued at more than Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (Ghc 20,000.00) for onward distribution to pupils in all the basic schools in Anlo Afiadenyigba and surrounding communities.

On Friday, 3rd May, 2024 the Association did the first phase of the distribution which benefited all the JHS pupils (Form 1 to form 3) in the following schools.

  1. Anlo Afiadenyigba E.P. JHS
  2. Anlo Afiadenyigba R.C. JHS
  3. Akatsavakpor M.A. JHS
  4. Nyravase Community School
  5. Tengekope JHS
  6. B. A. Holy Cross Preparatory School
  7. The King’s Voice School.

The Headteachers and Pupils of the various schools expressed gratitude to the group for the kind gesture.

They also put forward some other challenges facing their schools. The head teacher of E. P. Basic school James Defor complained that leaking roofs brought about heavy rains and a windstorm which affected the roofing. For his part, the head teacher of the R. C. Basic school Collins Agbedanu listed lack of marker board, broken windows and doors as their major challenges. At Tengekope, the head teacher, Simon Yao Yevoo, asked for assistance to procure textbooks and computers.

The Patron of the group, Christopher Attivor and the Chairman of the group Raymond Yao Agboado led the group to do the distribution. Other members who participated in the exercise were Nature Agboado, Xornam Dorgbedevor, Amos Ametsime, Cornelius Tay, Emmanuel Agboado, Agbotadua Alorgbodzi Gakpey and Godwin Asigbi. Other prominent members of the group include lawyer Hope Agboado, Romeo Foli Kuatsikor, Robert Edzorxoxo, Divine Yao Koleyevu, Wonder Agboado and Bubu Klinogo.

The Chairman of the group, Ayaa Agboado disclosed that in the coming months, the association intends to embark on two other projects, namely computerization and digitalization of the Anlo Afiadenyigba Health Center and the construction of an ultra-modern multipurpose sports complex.

This will see the construction of a Court that will be used for sporting activities such as volleyball, netball, basketball, handball and tennis. It will also come with floodlights to enable games to be played day and night. The group funds its activities and projects through contributions from members. They are determined to make a difference and leave a legacy.
