Eastern Regional Education Service holds maiden Excellence in Education Delivery Awards

The Eastern Regional Education Service has organised its Regional Maiden ‘Excellence in Education Delivery’ Awards in Koforidua with a call on stakeholders in the educational sector to help deliver quality education with emphasis on skills development, gender parity, provision of relevant school infrastructure and educational materials.

The Registrar at the Scholarship Secretariat, Dr. Kinsley Agyemang said achieving excellence in the delivery of quality education cannot be possible if teachers are relegated to the background.

He therefore encouraged the Ghana Education Service, GES, to help strengthen teachers by organizing refresher courses for them in their areas of expertise.

The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Margaret Nsiah-Asamoah said the awards which focused on ‘Bouncing Back in Unity through Excellent Education Delivery’ is to highlight achievements and award schools and individuals who have excelled in various fields of endeavor.

The Principal of Kibi Presbyterian College of Education, Rev Dr. Charles Fosu-Ayarkwa in an interview with GBC News said all Regional Directorates of Education in the country should emulate the gesture and entreated them to extend the award scheme to the districts.

The Overall Best Teacher who is from Aburi Presby Secondary Technical School in the Akuapem South Municipality of the Eastern region, Daniel Agyare-Brenu went home with a Saloon car.

He spoke to GBC NEWS about the criteria used in selecting the award Winners and some challenges facing schools in the municipality.

The first runner up who is an ICT Coordinator at Kwahu West Municipal Education Office, Ahmed Alhassan, received a double decker fridge with an undisclosed amount of money whiles a Tutor at the Wesley Methodist JHS in the West Akim District of the Eastern Region, Madam Grace Ofosua got a 42 inch television set and a cash prize for the second runner up position.

Some students from Various Senior High and Junior High Schools who excelled in their final Examinations were also awarded.
