The Melcom Group of Companies through Melcom Care Foundation has supported Akatsi College of Education (Akatsico) with five (5) modern washroom facilities.

The facility is designed mechanically with an overhead reservoir to ensure constant flow of water to flush the toilet.

At the handing over ceremony, the Group also presented gallons of detergents, a quantity of toilet rolls plus other toiletries.

In his remarks, the Group Director of Communications, Godwin Avenorgbo, charged the school management to take good care of the facility to warrant its durability.

He instructed the students to constantly clean the facility to help in its preservation for the benefit of the cohort of students to come.

“This facility needs at least five times cleaning a day. It will last as long as you maintain it well,” he stressed.

Mr. Avenorgbo advised that if they kept the washroom fine in some years to come, the company will assist with more washroom facilities.

The renowned broadcaster, however, admonished the students to take their studies seriously and develop relevant skills for their future.

“The only way to be an influence is to acquire the relevant skills, otherwise you can’t make it in the world,” he noted.

The Principal of the school, John Engelbert Seddoh, expressed his gratitude to the company for their kind gesture as he mentioned that, “the School is privileged to be the first tertiary institution to benefit from this project”.

Mr. Seddoh assured the company that students and staff members will maintain the facility as much as possible.

The Principal said, “as you’ll be using this facility, use them as people who are enlightened and cautious of their moral values.”

According to him, they have some toilet facilities but “they are far from the academic area, where we’ve academic facilities, therefore, the students would have to go to their halls of residence to ease themselves and then come back to class even during exams”.

He noted that these washrooms could have come at a better time and stressed the fact that, “this is going to help reduce the number of minutes students use to visit restrooms during critical periods of academic exercise”.

Donation to Akatsico ends the first phase of The Projects in The Volta region, that provided a minimum of 64 washroom cubicles for 19 schools in the Primary, JHS, SHS and Tertiary levels of Education in 9 Regions across Ghana.
