Yilo Krobo MP rewards hard-working teachers, calls for review of teacher licensure exams

The Member of Parliament, MP for Yilo Krobo Constituency, Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey in collaboration with the Yilo Krobo Municipal Education Directorate has organized a ceremony at the University of Environment and Sustainable Development, UESD, Somanya to celebrate hardworking teachers and education workers in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The programme which serves as a way of marking World Teachers Day in the municipality was on the theme, “The Teacher We Need for the Education We Want, the Global Imperative to Reverse the Teacher Shortage”. The occasion was also used to award staff of the Municipal Education Office whose hard work has been recognized by the Directorate.

The MP for Yilo Krobo, Mr. Tetteh Nyarkotey who fully funded the awards, acknowledged the invaluable contribution of teachers in nation-building. He used the opportunity to highlight some of his achievements in education over the two and half years in office as an MP adding that he has helped improve the infrastructure of some schools in the constituency.

He reiterated his commitment to partner stakeholders in education to continue to improve the quality of education in the municipality and promised that the awards ceremony will be held annually. Mr. Tetteh Nyarkotey called for the review of the teacher licensure exams.

Also present at the ceremony were the Yilo Krobo Municipal Chief Executive, Eric Tetteh, a delegation from the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council, Vice Chancellor of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development, Professor Eric Nyarko-Sampson among others.

In all, 41 deserving teachers and non-teaching staff were awarded in different categories for their hard work and dedication to service within the year under review.

The prize items include double-door fridges, tabletop fridges, television sets, standing fans, pressing irons and gas cookers, among others. A Teacher at the Wawase R/C Junior High School, Augustina Nagai was adjudged the Yilo Krobo Municipal Overall Best Teacher for 2023.
