The Minister for Education, Matthew Opoku Prempeh took his turn today together with officials of some Public Universities at the Public Accounts Committee sitting.

Addressing issues about accessing GETFund for infrastructural projects at the various public tertiary institutions, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh advised especially the public universities to do the right thing by being accurate and specific in the request for funds for projects.

He accused some of them of sometimes revising and implementing projects without prior consent from government.

The Education Minister’s caution followed a question put to the Director of Physical Development and Estate Management at the University of Cape Coast, Philip Ntim Owusu by the Public Accounts Committee panel.

The question probed the construction of a science block at the University whose initial budget was revised and changed to a higher figure without approval from the appropriate quarters.

Answering the question, Mr. Owusu said the project started before he took office and it had to be revised because they realised the rest of the work left would cost more with time, hence the necessity to upscale the previous budget.
