The National Catholic Secretariat Education Directorate has introduced a Science and Mathematics project to showcase the intellectual skills of science students in the field of renewable energy.
This is aimed at stimulating indigenous solutions to alternative energy sources, which are developed by students.
The project forms part of the launch of a Science and Maths Quiz Programme for Catholic Basic Schools in Ghana.
The national Maths quiz project was initiated in September last year for Catholic Basic Schools in Ghana.
The programme launched by the Archbishop, John Bonaventure Kwofie,  is dubbed “Future scientists fair”.
Participating students from 21 Catholic Schools across the country, are required to set up a science project on any theme related to Renewable Energy. It is to find indigenous solutions that originate from the curious minds of young people to challenge the society.
Archbishop Bonaventure Kwofie said the programme is to nurture basic school level students and raise scientists who will build the nation.
General Manager for the Education Directorate of the National Catholic Secretariat, Doris Eshun debunked the notion that quiz programme is meant only for Catholics, saying most of the students in Catholic schools, are not Catholics.

She said the initiative will benefit the nation at large and urged contestants to do their best for a successful programme.

Prizes for winners of the quiz include an amount of ten thousand cedis, a scholarship when entering any university in Africa, and classroom furniture.

They also gain a start-up account of five hundred cedis as initial deposit for a life-saving account with Ghana Commercial bank as well as books and educational magazines.
