The Accra High Court has directed the National Labour Commission, NLC, and the University Teachers Association, UTAG,  to settle their case out of Court. The two parties are expected to report back to the court on February 10, 2022.

The NLC has dragged UTAG before the Labour Court over its constant  refusal to comply with directives to call off the  strike.

At the hearing Counsel for the NLC, Eva Amihere prayed the Court to allow her to move two applications.

The first application is an enforcement of the directives issued by the Commission last January 13, for UTAG to return to work and the second is an Interlocutory injunction to stop the Association from continuing further with their strike.

The Presiding judge Justice Frank Rockson Aboadwe however requested to meet the parties in chambers.

Counsel for UTAG, Kwesi Keli-Delataa who spoke to the media after the proceedings, said the NLC will be allowed to move its motions if a consensus is not reached.

Meanwhile, the Universities risk a shutdown should the strike persist.

NUGS has already appealed to the parties to put entrenched positions aside in the interest of the students’ future.
