The Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana, TUTAG, has expressed grave concern over the Government’s blatant disregard for the rulings of the National Labour Commission and also the reluctance on the part of the National Labour Commission to enforce its ruling against the Government as to the codification of Conditions of Service for TUTAG members.

It has therefore served notice that should Government fail to address these concerns or engage TUTAG to have an amicable settlement of these issues within the next 10 days, the Association will not hesitate to declare a strike action. The President of TUTAG, Professor Collins Ameyaw gave the warning while addressing journalists in Kumasi.

According to the Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana, TUTAG, the issue of codification of Conditions of Service for its members has been outstanding since 2016. The Association says it has patiently engaged Government, amidst a feet-dragging posture by Government.

In a June 2021 ruling by the National Labour Commission, the Commission ruled among others that Government should continue to engage TUTAG on the review of the expired conditions of service.

In another ruling on September 2, 2022, the National Labour Commission directed that the effective date of payment of the internally generated fund component of the Allowances should be August 2021 as negotiated and agreed by the parties and the implementation date should be January 2023. President of TUTAG, Professor Collins Ameyaw said however that the Ministry of Finance has not shown any commitment to the issue.

Prof. Ameyaw also accused the Vice Chancellor’s of Technical Universities of secretly undermining the process.

Prof. Ameyaw said the National Executive of TUTAG has been stretched to its wit’s end concerning the unresolved issues. It has given the Government 10 days to address the concerns of TUTAG or engage the Association to have an amicable settlement of the issue.

It warned that should the concerns of TUTAG remain unaddressed after the expiration of the period, the Association will not hesitate to declare a strike action.
