The Asene Manso Akroso District Director of Education, George Kwame Somoah, has revealed that one of the major challenges confronting the district in terms of education is insufficient and inadequate teachers which is affecting teaching and learning in the district.

He explained that the district will need about 150 teachers to solve the challenge in order to promote quality teaching and learning to enhance academic excellence of students in the district. He spoke to the media during the handing over ceremony of a renovated school building for the Asene Methodist Kindergarten and Primary school in Akim Asene in the Eastern region.

It was constructed by a philanthropist and his wife, Mr and Mrs Danso. Mr. Somoah added that although there are numerous challenges facing the district in terms of education, the major one amongst them is the teacher deficit which is continually affecting academic performance in the district.

He, therefore, appealed to the government and the education service to deploy more teachers into the district to fill the vacant positions in classrooms across the district. He further added that education infrastructure deficits such as sanitation facilities, school buildings, among others are also problems and pleaded to corporate institutions, NGO’s and the government to come to their aid.

The CEO of Memphis Metropolitan Limited, Patrick Kwame Danso, stated that the government is in a difficult economic situation, adding that the statement by President Akufo-Addo that Ghanaians must be citizens but not spectators inspired him and his wife to also help to rescue their dying community. He advised the youth to have a vision in life and work wholeheartedly towards it.

The Headmistress of Asene Methodist Basic School, Grace Koranteng, expressed her gratitude to Mr. & Mrs. Danso for coming to their aid and assured them that the teachers of the school will do their best to promote the academic performance of the school.
