The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), has agreed to go back to negotiations with government after it was slapped with a ¢3,000 fine for time wasting.
The Labour Division of the High Court which issued the fine asked the two parties to settle the stalemate over their industrial action out of Court.
UTAG has since the declaration of its indefinite strike on August 2, consistently accused the National Labour Commission of bad faith in serving as an arbiter in the impasse between it and government.
The Labour Commission declared UTAG’s strike illegal and went ahead to secure an injunction to stop the Association.
It is seeking contempt charges and sanctions against the leadership of the Teacher Union following UTAG’s decision not to call off the strike.
In court on Monday, the Presiding Judge, Justice Frank Rockson Aboagye, gave the NLC and UTAG two days to re-evaluate their positions on the matter and consider settling the matter out of Court.
They are to reconvene in Court on Thursday to determine the way forward.
Speaking in an interview with GBC NEWS, UTAG President, University of Ghana Chapter, Dr. Samuel Nkubang said despite the High Court’s decision, UTAG is still on strike and will call it off if their demands are met.
