Franz Beckenbauer, a legend of the beautiful game has sadly passed away. The German legend lightened the football world with his unique talent, catching the attention of many fans of the sport. 

The veteran German international died at the age of 78 years. His family on Monday 8th January, 2024 confirmed in a statement to DPA, a new agency in Germany.

Beckenbauer won the World Cup trophy in 1974 and 1990 for his country.

The German will be heavily remembered as one of the only three men to win the World Cup both as a player and a manager. 

Beckenbauer won the World Cup trophy in 1974 and 1990 for his country. He also made 582 appearances as a defender for Bayern Munich although. His time at Bayern saw him won the German Bundesliga title and the European Cup as a player and a manager.

Beckenbauer legacy will forever reign supreme in the hearts and minds of all football fans around the world both as a player and a manager.
