Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Ministry to evacuate Nationals amidst conflict in Sudan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration says it is prepared to evacuate Ghanaian nationals trapped in Sudan’s conflict.

In the past weeks, Susan has been gripped by a deadly conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in avoidable casualties. Khartoum, the capital, has been the epicentre of clashes, with civilians being most affected.

In a statement, the Ministry said a number of Ghanaians especially students have been affected by the conflict. Ghana’s Honorary Consulate in Khartoum have reported that all Ghanaian nationals are safe.

The statement added that Ghana Embassy in Cairo, Egypt which has concurrent accreditation to Sudan, is working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and Honorary Consulate to coordinate the evacuation of Ghanaian nationals, adding that plans are underway to secure their safe passage to Ethiopia.

Government is assuring the general public, in particular, families and acquaintances of Ghanaians in Sudan that every efforts is being made to ensure the safety of their loved ones, until their arrival in Ghana.

Government, therefore, joins the International Community to appeal to the warring factions to cease fire and allow negotiations to resume for peace and the safety of the people of Sudan.
