The Ghana Health Service (GHS) says a major contributory factor to neonatal mortality in the country is infections resulting from poor management of umbilical cords of new borns.

To take away the stress families go through in managing umbilical cords of new borns, the Service, has launched a gel, effective for the management of umbilical cords.

Speaking at the launch the Acting Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Isabella Sagoe Moses, said the medication has for the past 40 years been used elsewhere across the globe and is expected to reduce to the barest minimum umbilical cord related deaths of babies.
