The Fanteakwa North District Health Directorate has revealed that stillbirths in the district have increased by 26 percent in the first quarter of 2023. The directorate lamented their worry about the situation.
According to the directorate, nine cases of stillbirths have been recorded between January and April this year, with the majority of the affected victims coming from rural areas.
In an interview with the media, when a philanthropist, Gabriel Kese-Yeboah donated hospital equipment worth over one hundred and twenty thousand cedis to the Begoro District Hospital, the District Health Director, Kojo Owusu Ansah express their dissatisfaction over the situation.
He attributed the situation to failure on the part of pregnant women to attend antenatal and also the behaviour of visiting herbalists and traditionalists for pregnancy care. Mr. Kojo Owusu Ansah advised pregnant women to prioritize their safety during pregnancy and frequent visits to health facilities for antenatal care.
In an interview with the media after the donation, the philanthropist Gabriel Kese- Yeboah noted that when he visited the health facility in the district last year, he noticed that the facility is handicapped in terms of equipment.
As a result, to help improve the facility, he decided to donate the items to the hospital. Mr. Kesse Yeboah called on all stakeholders in the district to support the facility with the little they can in order to improve the condition of the health facilities in the area.
Some of the items donated include procedure lamps, baby warmers, multipurpose hospital beds, delivery beds, electric auto flex, drip stands, 13 glucometers, and pressure digital machines among others.
