The Ashanti Region saw a sharp increase in positive cases of the Coronavirus diseases between the later part of December last year and now with recorded cases shooting up from 18 before the Christmas festivities to 79 currently.

The Ashanti Regional Director of Health, Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang who disclosed this to GBC’s Nicholas Osei-Wusu in Kumasi, attributed the alarming situation partly to the Christmas and New Year festivities as well as an apparent breakdown in the compliance with the COVID-19 safety protocols by the people in recent months.

Dr. Tenkorang said new strategies and approaches such as re-activation of the closed down COVID-19 Management Centres, and follow up visits are being adopted towards curtailing further spread of the disease.

Ghana’s COVID-19 active cases now stand at 1,330 as at Thursday, January 14.
