The Covid death toll as of February 17 is higher than that recorded from March last year when the country first recorded a case.

As of December last year, Ghana’s Covid death toll stood at 335. However latest figures collated from January to February 18 is 561 a difference of 230.

The Ghana Medical Association has attributed the spike in COVID 19 deaths in the country to limited access to healthcare facilities and non- adherence to Covid-19 safety protocols.

The Association lamented the inadequate number of medical personnel handling critical to severe COVID-19 cases saying it is contributing to the rising deaths.

General Secretary of the Association,Dr. Justice Yankson, said people keep losing their lives because there were no adequate COVID -19 Intensive care units with enough functional beds for patients.

He said the country does not have enough specialized facilities to take care of people with severe coronavirus infections and the increase in deaths simply means more critical to severe cases are being recorded but unfortunately they do not receive the needed attention.
