Ensure judicious use of IGF; Health Minister to New Board, Ho Teaching Hospital

The Minister of Health Kwaku Agyemang Manu hasb indicated that the government is bent on mobilizing resources to make Ho Teaching Hospital one of the best teaching hospitals in Ghana. Speaking at a ceremony to inaugurate an 11-member Board of the hospital, Mr Agyeman-Manu commended the hospital for working assiduously in managing the COVID-19 pandemic. He charged the newly inaugurated Board to work hard to serve the country and beyond.

” A lot is expected of you as Board members, the entire progress of Ho Teaching Hospital. Things have been entrusted unto you by the President and he is expecting you to report back to him”, the Minister indicated.

“The whole nation expresses its thanks to you with your support in fighting the Covid-19 battle. We expect that you will continue to do the good work’’, he added.

The Ho Teaching Hospital which is the main referral facility in the Volta Region was upgraded to serve the University of Health and Allied Sciences. The facility has been in operation for the past 20 years rendering care to thousands of people from Ghana and neighbouring countries. The Minister of Health Kwaku Agyemang-Manu charged the members to put the Internally Generated Funds, IGF, at the hospital to good use and also deliver quality health service.

‘’It is you who should find your resources but we will support you, we are also looking for some level of accountability with resources that you internally generate”, Mr. Agyeman-Manu.

The Board is chaired by the Chief Executive of Holy Trinity Medical Centre and Former Chief Executive of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Felix Anyah who was the previous Chairman of the Board. On behalf of the Board members, Dr. Anyah expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in them and promised to work effectively and efficiently to achieve the hospital’s goal.

“We thank the President for the confidence put in us, we promise that as a team, we will do our best, to bring to bear the best development for the Ho Teaching Hospital” Dr Anyah stated.

He noted that they are working to acquire international accreditation to promote medical health in the Volta Region and make Ghana a Medical Tourism hub.

Other members of the Board include Ernest Yao Gaewu, a Legal Practitioner,  Medical Practitioner, Dr. Emmanuel Kofi Amponsah, Allied Health Professionals, Dr. Prince Sodoke  Amuzu, a Pharmacist,  Dr. Audu Rauf, Representative of Nurses and Midwives, Felix Nyante, Representative of University Council, Professor John Gyapong, Acting Chief Executive of Ho Teaching Hospital, Dr. Sylvia Ayeley Deganus, with experience in Finance and Risk Management, Kofi Ampofo Agyapong, Victor Andy Danku, a Businessman,  and Dr. John Tampuori, Chief Administrator of the Hospital.
