The Western Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has administered Covid-19 booster shots to 119 persons in the region.

These include healthcare workers, persons with underlying health conditions, frontline security personnel, and persons 60 years and above who have received the second dose, thus becoming fully inoculated in the last three to six months.

The Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Health Service, GHS, Madam Esther Samira Awudu-Issaka, informed the Ghana News Agency that GHS has adopted the booster shots initiative to stem the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

She said five hundred and thirty-two thousand and one (532,001) people, representing 36.2% of the population, had taken the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination.

A total of 292,396 representing 19.9% had been fully vaccinated against the disease.

The region had 80 Covid-19 active cases from four districts, made up of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, Ahanta West, Amenfi Central and Tarkwa-Nsuaem municipalities, and that 79 of the cases were mild with one being moderate.
