The Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate has cautioned the public about the possible outbreak of diseases particularly cholera with the onset of the rains coupled with the insanitary conditions.

A statement signed by the Regional Director of Health Service, Dr. Charity Sarpong said there is the likely hood of cholera outbreak and other infectious diseases in the region.

The Ghana Health Service therefore advises the public to take some preventive measures which include cleaning food preparation areas and cooking utensils with soap and safe water, washing fruits and vegetables well before eating and eating food that is served hot, free from dust, flies and dirt.

The statement also encourages the habit of hand washing with soap under running water, after using the toilet, before feeding a baby and after taking care of sick persons. It also advises persons not to defecate in the open and keep uncollected rubbish covered.

The statement urges the start of Oral Rehydration Salts immediately in the event of any cholera case, and report to the nearest facility for medical attention.
