Executive Director of Care and Action for Mental Health (CAMHA), an NGO Ebenezer Fianko, has urged government to step up efforts at promoting mental health in the country.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana at the annual CAMHA games in Accra, Mr Fianko expressed concern at the neglect of mentally-challenged persons.

He entreated stakeholders and other private individuals to support the cause of mental health and promote inclusion in society.

CAMHA has been organising this sporting event for the past four years to champion the course for the inclusion of the socially neglected particularly those mentally challenged.

The event brought together the Accra, Pantang and Ankaful Psychiatric Hospitals and rehabilitation centres to participate in various recreational activities.

At the event the Executive Director Akunnor Frankor decried the deplorable mental health facilities.

He urged government to increase its effort at promoting mental health and called for private support.

The French Ambassador to Ghana, Anne Sophie AVE, commended the initiative and pledged its continuous support in championing the cause of quality healthcare delivery in the country.

The event was sponsored by the French Embassy.
