Liposuction is a technique in cosmetic surgery for removing excess fat from under the skin by suction. According to Dr. Levi Ankrah, a plastic surgeon at the Korle-bu Teaching hospital, any person can undergo liposuction. But, first, the Doctors will first of all have a conversation with the patient to find out what exactly she wants, if she has had surgeries in the past and also to be sure she is fit enough to go under the knife.

Speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show, he stressed that it is an extensive consultation that needs to be thought about carefully before one goes ahead with it.

Upon explaining some of the factors that could prevent a doctor from performing liposuction surgery on a patient, Dr. Levi said, “every surgery comes with risks, and if you find out for example that the person has a heart problem, to put the person under anesthesia for 4hrs might not be safe, in such a case if the person is not fit enough, you wouldn’t go-ahead to do it.”

He continued, “no one does cosmetic surgery immediately after delivery because of the body’s physiological changes during pregnancy and so you cannot rush and do long procedures”. He added that “once you deliver, the uterus shrinks in the womb and your tummy will get smaller.”

He advised that women can undergo tummy tucks after not planning to have any more children to avoid any complications.
