The US Ambassador to Ghana, Stephanie Sullivan has noted that the United States of America is leading the world in providing critical international assistance towards battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a Press Release issued prior to the presentation of critical medical supplies to two health facilities in the Western and Ashanti Regions, Ambassador Sullivan noted that the move which is geared towards preventing the further spread of the pandemic, also testifies to the advanced partnership between Ghana and the USA.
Handing over the items to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the Deputy Director, U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit, Dr. Terrel Sanders said the donation of medical supplies is a cooperative delivery between the United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM), and the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
According to him, United States is leading the world in providing critical international assistance in the fight against the global pandemic.
Mr Sanders who is also on the Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine ABIM Board Certified at the American Embassy, said the GAF continues to play a leading role, along with the Ministry of Health in responding to the pandemic here in Ghana and encouraged them to do more.
Receiving the items, the Medical Director for the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, Dr Joseph Tambil thanked the U.S Embassy for the gesture and gave the assurance the items will be used for it intended purpose.
The items which were presented to both the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi in the Western Region and also to the Kumasi South Hospital in the Ashanti Region included 10,000 N95 face masks, 1,600, hospital gowns, 2,000 litres of methylated spirit, 3,000 litres of sodium hypochlorite, 20 glucometers, 200 glucometer strips and 14 pulse oximeters valued at 430,000 Ghana Cedis.
