Meningitis outbreak kills 2 students in Nyankomase SHS

There is an outbreak of meningitis in the Assin South District of the Central Region.

The outbreak, which began last week has already claimed the lives of two female students of the Nyankumasi Ahenkro Senior High School (SHS), while 13 suspected cases picked up from the school have been quarantined for treatment at the Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital.

Deputy Central Regional Public Health Director, Dr. Kwame Sarpong, said samples from the 13 suspected cases have been sent to the public health reference laboratory at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital for confirmation or otherwise and the results are expected tomorrow.
