Morocco has been selected to host the 77th FIFA Congress, scheduled for March 18, 2027, in Rabat. The announcement was made by FIFA President Gianni Infantino during the 76th FIFA Congress held on April 30, 2026, in Vancouver, Canada, where key decisions shaping the future of global football were discussed.

The 2027 Congress is expected to be particularly consequential, as it will include the FIFA presidential election for the next four-year term. Gianni Infantino has confirmed his intention to stand for re-election for the 2027–2031 cycle.

Early political signals suggest strong backing for the incumbent. The Confederation of African Football has already declared its support, alongside member associations from Asia, which gives Infantino a substantial base of support heading into the election. However, a significant number of votes remain undecided, particularly from Europe, the Americas, and Oceania.

Beyond the presidential race, FIFA also confirmed that a separate Extraordinary Congress will be held virtually on November 23, 2026, dedicated to selecting the hosts for the 2031 and 2035 editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

For Morocco, hosting the FIFA Congress reinforces its growing influence in international football governance and its emergence as one of Africa’s most strategic football hubs. Over the past decade, the country has made sustained investments in modern stadiums, training facilities, and football infrastructure, which allows for positioning itself as a reliable host for high-level competitions. Looking ahead, the country is set to cohost the 20230 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.

In that context, hosting the 77th FIFA Congress, beyond it being ceremonial, also spotlights Morocco’s steady rise as both a competitive force on the field and a trusted partner in shaping the administrative and commercial future of the game.
