The National Youth Authority has begun Regional consultations across the nation to elicit inputs from Youth groups and key identifiable stakeholders towards the review of the National Youth Policy.

The essence of the decentralised stakeholder engagements is to bring on board the views of particularly the youth across the country, in fine-tuning the policy to reflect the exigencies of time.

The policy which was launched in 2010 has 19 priority areas ranging from Leadership through Good Governance to Democracy, all of which remain very vital to the Youth development agenda.

Addressing participants in Kumasi comprising Student Representatives from second cycle schools, Civil Society Organizations, the Ghana Muslim Mission as well as the Scouts and Cadet Corps, the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Perry Okudzeto said the Youth play a critical role in the Socio-Economic development of any nation, hence matters affecting them must be taken seriously.

He described the reviewing process of the Youth policy document as important to bring it up to speed with current trends in Youth development work.

Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Elizabeth Agyemang indicated that since 2010, a lot has changed in the area of youth issues and development.

She expressed the hope that the revision of the National Youth Policy will help in the positive development of young people.

Meanwhile, a Review Conference on Ghana’s National Youth Policy has been held at Abesim near Sunyani, the Bono-Ahafo Regional Capital.

It was aimed at collating the views of Stakeholders, as Ghana moves to review its Youth Policy.

Speaking to some Youth who participated in the exercise, they called for proper implementation of the Policy, once it is finalised, so that it impacts positively on their development.
