Over ¢86K presented to families of five deceased teachers, two others

Management of the Ghana Education Service, GES, and SIC Life Insurance have presented ¢86,500 to families of five deceased teachers and two surviving ones. This was at a ceremony to re-launch the insurance policy in Accra.

One of the survivors was maimed by armed robbers.

The Director-General of the GES, Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwa urged all teaching and non-teaching staff to join the GES insurance policy as they stand to benefit from the package.

Family members of each of the deceased teachers received ¢18,000.00. The deceased teachers are George Somuah Bosompem of the Salvation Army Basic School at Asiakwa, Amos Aboagye, Akyem Oda Anglican Basic School in the Birim Central Municipality, Sampson Amoako Atta Narh, Apau Wawase in the Ayensuano district and Kwame Kyei, Mangoase SHS in Adawso, all in the Eastern Region, and Bruno Ayitey at Kodiabe in the Shai Osudoku district in the Greater Accra Region.

The other  two are Yohebeth Anyadi, from the Volta region who received ¢18,500.00 to treat her medical condition and Kofi Nartey from Klu Agogo in the Yilo Krobo district was shot in the right arm by armed robbers, resulting in the amputation of his arm received ¢18,000.00.

The Director General of the GES, Prof. Opoku Amankwa whose speech was read for him by a Deputy Director-General in charge of managerial services, Anthony Boateng, said deductions of ¢10.00 cedis every month will resume next month.

The Managing Director of SIC Life Insurance, Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Wyns-Dogbe outlined the benefits to be derived by teaching and non-teaching staff of the GES from the policy.

The GES insurance policy which was rolled out last year was halted when teacher unions kicked against it after the first deduction of ¢10.00 in July.
