Former Member of Parliament for Asutifi North Constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region, Mr. Benzahin Joseph Dahah has entreated parents to make issues of children’s rights a major priority.

The former lawmaker of the Seventh Parliament made this passionate appeal during his speech at the 31st December Watch Night Service at the Satellite Church of Christ.

He admonished parents and guardians not to be ignorant of the Children’s Act in the constitution of Ghana but rather to seek to understand that even though the children are theirs, they are the government and nation’s property.

Mr. Dahah entreated parents and the congregants to make sure their children are not taken through any income-earning endeavor while they are below the working age enshrined in the constitution.

He also emphasized the rights of the children to decide the religion or worship they prefer.

According to him, a child has every right to report a parent or guardian who under biological authority prevents them from quality education and a safe environment.

He admonished them as Christians to be law-abiding and never ignore the potency of the government and the law.

He further called on them to be critical of political involvement as the year is an election year. He said the country needs prayers and a sound democratic atmosphere while approaching the election of Parliamentarians and a President. He also seized the opportunity to wish the congregants well in the new year.
