4 MDCE appointees in Volta Region rejected

4 out of the 18 nominees of the President nominees for the portfolios of Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Volta Region have so far been rejected by members of their Assemblies.

They are the Adaklu, Agortime-Ziope, Akatsi North Districts and the Ketu North Municipal Assemblies.

Out of the 4, the nominee for Agotime- Ziope, Emelia Adziamah had the chance to go for a second round of confirmation while the three other nominees were totally rejected.

15 out of the 18 Municipal and district Assemblies in the Volta Region have held their confirmation .

11 nominees  of the President  out of the 15 have been endorsed as substantive Municipal and District Chief Executives by Assembly Members in their localities.

They include, North and South Dayi, Afadjato South, Ho West, North, Central and South Tongu and the Akatsi South District Assemblies.

The rest are Ho, Hohoe and Kpando Municipal Assemblies.

The nominees for Adaklu district, Phanuel  Kadey Donkor and Ketu North Municipality, Anthony Avorgbedor who were nominated by President Akufo Addo for a second term and new entrants for Akatsi North, Prosper Paty were totally rejected by their Assembly Members because they secured votes less than the 50% threshold required by law.

The fate of the three nominees depends on whether the President will re-nominate them. The nominee for Agotime-Ziope District, Emelia Adziamah who is the only female among the 18 nominees in the Volta Region polled 12 out of the 22 votes cast representing 54 % which is less than the two thirds majority of the votes cast required to pass the mark. She however has a second chance within 10 days when another confirmation will be held.

All the 11 nominees who have been confirmed as Municipal and District Chief Executives pledged to use the opportunity to work hard towards improving the livelihoods of their people.

The DCE elected for Central Tongu, Thomas Moore Zonyra secured 39 out of the 40 votes cast representing 98% to serve a second term. He pledged to continue with projects that will insure to the benefit of the people.

The confirmation  for nominees for Anlo District and Ketu South and Keta Municipal Assemblies are slated for later on October 7 2021.
