The Electoral Commission (EC) is to conduct continuous registration ahead of the December elections.

This is to enable eligible voters, especially, those who arrived in the country after the reopening of the Kotoka International Airport earlier this month to register and vote in this year’s elections.

This was announced at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting yesterday (September 24, 2020), which is contrary to the EC’s position on the matter.

Acting Director of Public Affairs at the Commission, Sylvia Annor told Radio Ghana’s Nathaniel Nartey in an interview earlier this month that Ghanaians who arrived in the country after the COVID-19 restrictions were eased will not have the opportunity to register and vote.

However, at the IPAC Meeting yesterday, the Political Parties were informed of the EC’s decision to organize a continuous registration exercise.

National Secretary of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Paa Kow Ackon, called on the EC to announce the date for the continuous registration immediately.

General Secretary of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Sara Grant, at the IPAC Meeting, said the EC has less than two weeks to organize the continuous registration else the registrants will be deemed ineligible to vote in December.
