The Executives of the Jirapa constituency of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) say the petition by nine out 51 Members of the Jirapa Municipal Assembly for the President to remove the MCE, Mrs. Christine Bonbanye Amadu is frivolous and “lacks substance and credibility”.

They contended that the move is aimed at satisfying the selfish interests of the petitioners and to make the NPP government as well as the MCE of Jirapa unpopular.

The Constituency Financial Secretary of NPP, Augustine Tengan who expressed the sentiments on behalf of the executives at a news conference at Jirapa entreated President Akufo-Addo and the good people of Ghana and the Jirapa Municipality to disregard what he termed the “infamous petition” dated October 15, 2018.

The organizers of the news conference stated that they consider the reasons for the incessant pressure being mounted on the President by certain group of Assembly members of the Jirapa Municipal Assembly to remove the MCE from office as parochial and selfish which are borne out of “hatred and sheer agenda” to mar the reputation of the hard working MCE, Mrs. Amadu.

The news conference was told that the issues being raised against the MCE in respect of the construction of a three-unit classroom block at Mwankuri Chachaa and the non-approval of the 2018 budget of the assembly among others, have all been rehashed.

Mr. Tengan said: “We can all recall that somewhere in April this year, a group of assembly members made a move for the impeachment of our MCE, they raised a number of issues and called on all mandated and necessary agencies accredited to investigate corrupt practices at the Jirapa Municipal Assembly.

The Economic and Organized Crime Office, (EOCO) was there and investigated, the internal auditor as well as the Auditor General did their audit and their discoveries and revelations vindicated Madam Christine Bonbanye Amadu”.

He continued that, “the reports of these institutions are public documents and as such could be accessed by any concerned citizen at the records of the Municipal Assembly. ..Except [that] the honourable members are discrediting the credibility of the reports of these institutions.”

Mr. Tengan underscored the necessity for constant agitations for the removal of MDCEs in Jirapa to be nipped in the bud, saying the continuous agitations of Jirapa youth towards every appointee to the seat of government in the District, now Municipality is becoming a nuisance and as well creating a bad habit or culture if not immediately corrected will eventually develop into an attitude.

The NPP Executives were equally not happy about the inability of the Jirapa Municipal Assembly to elect a Presiding Member after three attempts involving six rounds of voting and appealed to the two contestants, Messrs Richard Badombie and Karim Kuri to pave the way for fresh nominations to be made for the Assembly to make progress.
