Ghana’s former Ambassador to the US, Dr. Kwame Bawuah-Edusei, has been awarded for his immense contribution to the formation, growth and development of the Asante Students’ Union, ASU.

This was at the 40th anniversary celebration of the Union in Kumasi.

Dr. Bawuah Edusei, a medical practitioner, entrepreneur and philanthropist, was one of the foremost founders of ASU in the late 1970s, and the Union had since grown, expanding its branches to almost all tertiary and second-cycle institutions in the country.

He was grateful to the Union for the honour done him, and stressed the need for the members to strive for excellence in the pursuit of their educational career. He entreated the youth to be truthful, honest and disciplined in their endeavours.

The National President of ASU, Nana Kwame Donkor, called for unity amongst the members.

Other founding members included Dr. Richard Anane, a medical practitioner and former Minister of State under former President John Agyekum Kufuor led administration, the late Kwame Osei Prempeh and Mr. F.F. Antoh, a politician.

According to the former Ambassador, some of the objectives for the formation of the Union was to inculcate patriotism, voluntarism and leadership into the members. It also provides research activities to support Asanteman and Ghana’s development, while providing educational support to underprivileged children.
