Germany has pledged to assist Ghana in its industrialization agenda thus a Memorandum Of Understanding, (MOU) has been signed between the two countries to that effect.

The visiting German Chancellor, Angela Dorothea Merkel has also supported Ghana’s “Beyond Aid agenda” and has pledged to assist Ghana to achieve these feat.

 Chancellor Merkel has touted Ghana’s democratic credentials in the areas of free press and peaceful democratic transfer of power.

She however, believe that Ghana can do more in the fight against corruption.

Angela Merkel promised to assist Ghana in its transformational agenda. She said Germany wants to avoid the situation where young people set out on a life threatening journey.

President Akufo-Addo is seeking the assistance of Germany in modernising its Agriculture, develop industries a and strengthening its financial sectors.

The President has also welcome news of Germany preparedness to built a car assembling Plant in Ghana. President Akufo-Addo stated this at a joint news conference at the Jubilee House as part of a day’s Visit of visiting Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The day’s visit is expected to strengthen the bilateral relations between Ghana and Germany. It’s also to boost trade and other relations between the two countries.

This underlines the close partnership between Ghana and Germany 60 years after establishing diplomatic relations.

President Akufo-Addo lauded Germany’s industrialization drive and building a strong economy. He also welcomed the Germany’s desire to set up a  VW vehicle assembling plant in the country.  He pledged that Government will give the investor community of Germany every necessary assistance they would require.

The Chancellor observed that currently, there are about forty two universities in Germany who offer scholarships to Ghanaian students. She added that these scholarships will continue and her administration will look at how to scale it  up

President Akufo-Addo has expressed concern over the fate of four thousand Ghanaians living in  Germany illegally.

Answering questions at a joint news conference at the Jubilee House as part of visit by Chancellor Merkel, President Akufo-Addo said he will sit with the Germany authorities to decide on their fate.

The President has therefore appealed to visiting Chancellor to give amnesty to four thousand immigrants.

The Chancellor was accompanied by the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Gerd Müller and a high-level business delegation. Her visit to Ghana is part of her three nations Africa tour,  which has taken her to Senegal.

Her visit focused on economic cooperation and on promoting investment and business in Ghana.  Germany is supporting Ghana through long-standing development cooperation programmes as well as a new bilateral “Investment and Reform Partnership” launched in December 2017.

The cooperation brings additional 100 million Euros of German development funds to promote Renewable Energy and Energy efficiency in Ghana, and to foster private investment into renewable energy as well as vocational training in the energy sector.
