Ghana to join Atlantic Basin Cooperation

Ghana has accepted the invitation of the US, to be part of the Atlantic Basin Cooperation, as a founding member. It will provide the platform to enhance approaches to Atlantic Ocean issues.

President Akufo-Addo announced this during a State Banquet at the Jubilee House, in honour of US Vice President, Kamala Harris. President Akufo-Addo said Ghana will continue to collaborate with the US at the bilateral and multilateral levels, to address issues like widespread poverty, irregular migration, insecurity, and human rights violations among others.

President Akufo-Addo assured the US Vice President that Ghana will maintain a strong collaboration with her country in finding solutions to the world’s most challenging issues such as violent extremism, human and drug trafficking, piracy as well as climate change. The President spoke about Ghana’s position regarding the Atlantic Basin Corporation as a Founding Member.

US Vice President, Kamala Harris, praised Ghana’s leading role in championing democracy, freedom, justice and liberty on the African continent, for more than 60 years. She noted that ”Ghana’s leadership and advocacy on the world stage is not only vital,but inspiring and historical”.

Among the dignitaries who graced the occasion were international guests Vice President, Mahamadu Bawumia, First lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, and Former President Kufuor.
