Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has described Government’s One-Village–One-Dam-Project, as a monumental waste of tax payers’ money.

He said Government’s promise during the 2016 Elections was to build dams that would serve as irrigation facilities, as well as a water source for livestock.

This has however proven to be untrue, as works undertaken under the Project cannot be described as Dams.

Addressing the Chiefs and people of Loggu in the Wa East District during his four-day tour of the Upper West Region, Mr. Mahama, said a recent assessment conducted by the NDC revealed, that structures that had been constructed could not hold enough water during the long dry seasons in the Savannah area.

The NDC Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama is in the Upper West Region for a 4-day tour.

On the second day of the tour, Mr. Mahama visited some Paramount Chiefs in the Wa East, Sissala East and West Constituencies.

At Loggu, the Former President was enskinned as the ‘Dondoli Loggu Naa’ of the area.

Former President Mahama said under the previous NDC government, several dams that were fit for purpose were built.

He said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government was untruthful to the Ghanaian people.

On mining, the Former President was unhappy that the current government chose to use military personnel to address the issues.

Mr. Mahama said when voted into power, he will ensure that the soldiers are withdrawn; all seized concessions will be returned to owners along with seized equipment.

He said his next government will look at formalizing the small scale mining sector to create more jobs.

He said this when he addressed the chiefs and people of the Manwe Traditional Area.

Mr. Mahama ended the second day tour at Fielmuo in the Sissala West District.

He is expected to visit other Traditional Areas in Jirapa, Lawra, Nandom, Hamile and Lambussie.

Mr. Mahama is also expected to meet religious leaders before wrapping up his tour of the Region.
