A Presidential Aspirant of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Kofi Konadu Aprako has disclosed that the creation of an additional six regions by the Akufo-Addo administration was unnecessary.

Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show, he noted that if he were to be in Akufo-Addo’s shoes, he would have maintained the 10 regions because the additional 6 regions add to government expenditure as they require administrative expenses and regional ministers to operate efficiently.

“During my campaign tour, I saw the administration aspects of these regions that we have created. A tremendous amount of work needs to be done to be able to make this administration work. Unfortunately, it just so happened that, just as we created them, then the economic situation has gotten worse. So what they are supposed to do, they’ve got to have the capacity and resources to do what may well have been the attractive reason for the president to create. We don’t have the resources to do them,” he explained.

He added that even though the establishment of the new regions was ethnically driven, “reality should help us make a better judgment”.
